IT & Digital Strategy

ERP Evaluation & Selection

Within the ERP Partner Works we have many years of experience implementing SAP, Oracle, JDE, Microsoft D365, Maconomy, ODOO, ZOHO and have been involved in multiple selection processes. The typical approach is to create a questionnaire that asks many questions and from the answers a crude score is created. A demonstration is also requested, and scoring is done on this. Depending upon the weighting the vendor with the highest score gets chosen.

We recommend a fresh business-oriented approach where the benefit to business is the primary driver (ROI). With a deep understanding of the vendor side and strong negotiation experience, we can assist a client in selecting the right solution and in creating win-win deals and successful projects.

Project & Change Management

An ERP Project requires all the disciplines of project management and more. The implementation of an integrated system with multiple modules and processes that span organizational structures requires added focus on critical areas such as testing, training and scope management. 

Change management is either not done, or badly done, or done following a recipe which is usually unsuccessful. An example of the latter is using the Prosci ADKAR Model at a superficial level (Tick box exercise). Current thinking is moving towards organizations fostering change resilience. Unitary development Theory (UDT) is a leading approach for understanding an organization’s Transformation / Change Capability Level.

A tool in the methodology is the Digital Maturity Index (DMI) provides a structured, actionable framework. This measures six core capabilities (Dynamics) and their sub-capabilities (Constructs). Each stage builds on the previous one. For organizational transformation this implies an organization cannot perform beyond its current level of maturity and misalignment between ambition and capability creates friction, delays and failure. Here are some common questions about our services and Odoo.

Odoo is an ERP system that is growing at 50% per annum. Included in the product suite over and above the normal modules (Accounting, Sales, Manufacturing, Inventory, Purchasing, Subscription, Rental, Field Services) is a Website Tool, CRM, Communications including video conferencing, Calendar, Surveys, AI, Dashboards, Barcodes, Shop Floor all of which is integrated in a common intuitive interface. 

Three things: Breadth of functionality, Low cost of ownership including implementation and out the box integration. This is a system that is rewriting the playbook and making the legacy players redundant in the small and medium business sectors.

ODOO is suitable for many sectors and businesses including the list we have published under Industries. It has functionality for multi company and multi-currency requirements. However, suitability has additional dimensions. The solution may not be suitable due to the size of an organization (Large), the complexity and uniqueness of its processes and the change readiness of an organization. We are able to assess this by working with you.

Significantly less than existing ERP systems. A small and simple business would take between a month to three months depending upon the number of modules chosen and the willingness to adopt standard processes. 

As with any project we follow a lifecycle which includes Planning, Implementation, Go live and Support and then refinement. As far as possible we encourage clients to initially use the standard ODOO processes and fight the urge to mimic the legacy system. The biggest contributor to implementation cost is customization and this also creates future upgrade costs. Part of planning will be an ROI exercise to ensure the project is grounded in sound business logic.
